Special Prayer Night of Prayer

February 15, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Dear Resurrection,

I’d like to invite you to attend a prayer meeting this week at very short notice. You may have seen reports of a revival that started last week at Asbury College in Kentucky. (You can read one here.) We are praying for this revival and its spread.

If you’re able to come, I hope to see you tonight, Wednesday, Feb 15, 6:30-8:30pm in the sanctuary. For more background, please read Bp. Stewart’s letter to clergy in our Diocese below.

Dear Clergy Team,

I trust that many of you have now heard or seen reports of the revival at Asbury College reported in Christianity Today here. It is now on its seventh day. Our Diocese has different connections with this work of God. Father Brett Crull’s father-in-law is on the faculty at Asbury and has been involved in the revival. Deacon Margie Fawcett’s daughter arrived at Asbury yesterday with fellow Wheaton College students and has been sending regular reports. Many of my adult, college, and high school children are leaving their respective homes and colleges today to seek the Lord at Asbury.

The vision of our Diocese is to plant a revival of Word and Sacrament infused by the Holy Spirit. So, we have even more reason to rejoice in these reports and to pray for the Lord to strengthen this move of God. I also want to call us to pray that, if it is his will, he will multiply this revival. May our Diocese receive whatever work of the Holy Spirit may come from this move of God.

I would like to call you to pray and fast for this. Katherine and I, with some Resurrection leaders, will be leading two prayer meetings here at Resurrection to pray for Asbury and for the spreading of the revival.

The first prayer meeting will be today, Tuesday, Feb 14, from 5-6pm in All Saints Chapel and the second will be tomorrow night, Wednesday, Feb 15, from 6:30-8:30pm in the sanctuary. I would LOVE to have any area clergy or people of God join us. Please spread the word to your churches. Please consider holding your own prayer meetings.

As I have often taught, the heart of revival is an application of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Revival has a continuous aspect that we in the church seek to live everyday and, as seen in Scripture, revival can also have a spontaneous aspect. As a Diocese, we rejoice in both aspects. We desire a long-term, slow-burn, and church-based revival of Word and Sacrament. Come, Holy Spirit.

Love,
+Stewart
