What is Alpha?

What Is Alpha?

Alpha is a place to ask the big questions about life. Why am I here? Is there more to life than this? Where am I going in life? Can I find happiness where I’m looking for it? You’re not alone in asking these big, vulnerable, beautiful, messy, complicated questions. At Alpha, we recognize that there is a “universal human need to explore.”

Alpha is a series of sessions that explore the Christian faith and how Christianity can help answer some of those big life questions. You can find Alpha sessions held all over the world, but they all have a few things in common. First, everyone is welcome. It’s a friendly, open, and informal environment where you can be yourself and ask any question you may have. We share food together and we learn together. Each week highlights different questions about faith and is designed to create conversation about life, faith, and meaning.

Who Is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone.

We each have our own story. Maybe you’ve never been to church before. Maybe you’re skeptical about the Christian faith. Maybe you went to church when you were younger but haven’t stepped inside one in years. Maybe you’re involved in church already but want to explore the fundamentals of your faith. Maybe you have doubts, but the questions you have are louder. Maybe you’re searching for meaning in your life and you don’t know where to start.

Start with Alpha.

What to Expect

Alpha is a weekly gathering that includes a home-cooked dinner, a video, and group discussion. It’s as simple as that.

DINNER

Food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.

VIDEO

The videos are designed to engage and inspire conversation. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?

DISCUSSION

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly, and open environment.
