Dear Resurrection,
When our Rez Youth director Caleb Karnosh invited our students to read through the Book of Psalms during Advent/Christmas, I thought, hey, we should all do that! At Rez we love the Bible. As Anglicans (joining with Jewish friends and Christians throughout the ages) we share a special fondness for the psalms. There’s even a plan in our Book of Common Prayer for reading through all of the 150 psalms every month (see the pdf here). The RezYouth team developed beautiful bookmarks that break up the psalms into an easy reading schedule for evenings and mornings each day.
I usually enjoy reading the psalms slowly and prayerfully, so honestly, this is new for me. But I’m enjoying getting the big picture of these prayers. It’s like flying over rather than walking through the lovely terrain of the psalms.
So, I encourage you to join us in this practice. Don’t worry if you’re behind. You could just start with the psalms for this day of December and then finish the rest in January.
