Amidst Peril Light Prevails

By Anna Quistad

This artwork was created with acrylic paint on a vintage window. After finding this on Marketplace, I knew it would be fun to paint yet had no idea what to do or how to use it. After learning about the RezArts Festival and spending time in prayer, the image of peering out the window of a ship in a treacherous storm came to mind. Like Paul’s voyage when approaching his infamous shipwreck near the coast of Malta, I envisioned how Paul must have been constant in prayer amidst the perilous storm. As a metaphor for the storms of life, we can patiently wait on God for deliverance, and trust that no matter what happens we can rejoice in the hope that God will be with us amidst all circumstances. The lighthouse is a metaphor of the Word of God, as the Light both warns us of rocks and dangers ahead; and it brings good news that we are approaching a reprieve in our journey, that we are nearing shore, and can there rest on solid ground. The stars also symbolize hope, as the storm will eventually pass. The stars will once again shine and guide us in the night sky.
