Be Patient

By Jack Urban

The Be Patient Scripture Graph continues in the tradition of jazzing up Bible verses with computer graphics I started in the late 1990s to support my work with imprisoned youth.

My intent with Be Patient has been to capture the nature of God’s Word through puzzle-like calligraphy that employs typographic symbolism in the color and shape of the words and characters.

The typology of the phrase “be patient in tribulation” shows spontaneity, humor, and a riddle-like nature that mirrors some passages of scripture.

The phrase “Be constant in prayer” typographically symbolizes the clear truth of God’s Word and the life-giving instructions it provides. This phrase’s lettering is constant and confidant just like our prayer-life must be consistent to successfully overcome the challenges that hold us back.

The tree of life represents us. Each believer rests in the truth of God’s word, not on the perspectives of the world. If we remain rooted in Him, we will [be]come like Him.

For fun, see if you can guess the hidden symbolism in the words: Be, Patient, in, and tribulation.
