Recently, I was talking with God about something in my life, and an image came to mind. I was looking at the situation and God was next to me, listening. I was surprised when Jesus reached out towards me. Gently, he turned my face away from the situation and back towards his. He was smiling at me. It was okay; I needed to focus on Jesus himself. But when I looked towards him, I could not see him anymore. My eyes had gone blind from sin.
God will not leave us blind forever. The Scriptures teach of a God who loves and faithfully redeems his people. The process can be uncomfortable. Living under God’s authority requires the character described in Romans 12:12. In this season I cannot see God’s direction the way I often expect, but I can follow him. It’s teaching confidence and trust, and God’s power is made visible in my life.
This piece is inspired by Bartemaeus (Mark 10:46-52), the man born blind (John 9:1-7), the leperous man in Matthew 8:2, Isaiah and the burning coal (Isaiah 6:1-10), and Hagar at the well (Genesis 16:13 and 21:8-21).
