My mixed media work is a gradual gathering of marks, colors, textures, materials and images as I seek to pay attention in my ordinary daily life. For me, making is a way of understanding where I am and a way to practice seeing the presence of God. I have often wondered what it means to be constant in prayer. In part, I believe it is joining in the prayers of the cloud of witnesses which surround us, both those alive in this world and those alive with Christ. It also seems to me that it is a posture of moving in the world as a kind of prayer, being open to the liminal space where heaven breaks in on earth. There have been seasons when prayer has felt very difficult to me, it has been a comfort to pray in these ways; to let the words fellow witnesses cover me when I cannot speak, and to pray with my hands and my eyes through what I make when I do not have words.
