This is a song that Jonathan Smith and I (Caleb Bristow) worked on together for this year’s art festival. We titled it the theme for the festival because we were inspired to use many verses from Ephesians that have to do with being one in the body of Christ and loving our brothers and sisters, in order to write this song. We are both singing in the song as well. Jonathan did the guitar in the song. I wrote most of the lyrics and Jonathan affirmed them.
LYRICS:
Verse 1
I pray that you will be established and rooted in the love of Jesus
May this love that surpasses all knowledge fill us to the fullest.
Pre Chorus
May we grasp how wide long high and deep the love of Christ is
Verse 2
May we be together with the Lord’s holy people
Christ filling all our hearts with His Spirit
Chorus
Speaking truth in love, we grow like Christ
We are joined as one, Christ as the head
Bridge
Every member of the church comes together again
held and joined together
by Christ the head
Jonathan and I are both regular attenders of Church of the Rez, but Jonathan is also a member.

Awake O Sleeper

- Awake O Sleeper 00:00
This song emerged from Ephesians 5:13-14, “But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says, ‘Awake, O Sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.’” I wrote the lyrics first. I then sat at the piano and asked the Lord for a lullaby. I felt in my spirit that even though the lyrics are about awakening and coming into the light, the irony of a lullaby would reach places of darkness and night. I also wanted to use primarily black keys to create the sound of dissonance to reflect that irony as well. Another irony is that the initial fear of being vulnerable or exposed to the light actually dissipates once “Christ shines on you.” His light fully washes away the darkness within. I personally resonate with this song. I’ve had hidden pain and suffering that needed to be exposed to the light before deliverance and healing could occur. It’s been an experience of becoming more fully alive and free.
